about

X-Kalay welcomes in the summer with another label debut from Leipzig based artist Marvin Uhde aka Qnete. An accomplished, yet hugely underrated producer, Qnete's notable solo contributions have come on the respected Berlin label 777, Dresden's Uncanny Valley offshoot Shtum, and London's now ubiquitous Lobster Theremin. On his latest effort for X-Kalay he turns in a flawless EP of deep, trancey progressive house.

"Sand Progression" kicks things off and is aimed squarely at the floor; the proggy bass groove and shuffling drums driving an infectious rhythm. This one is surely destined for heavy rotation, summer banger incoming. Next up, "Atacama Behemoth" changes tack and winds things back - it's all introspective, yearning pads and airy melodies; in Marvin’s own words - "the product of being kept awake and slightly frightened on a late Friday night studio session..."

On the flip, label favourite "Air Progression" is a tripped out, leftfield house masterpiece. Immersed in psychedelic pads, jungle breaks and tension building repetition, we're taken on a mesmerising journey before breaking out into an ecstatic acid refrain O___O

Finally, "Touching Down, Taking Off" ups the tempo and darkens the tone. This is a moodier cut; the weighty groove locks down a staggering tribal rhythm, massive resonant bass cuts through fluttering arps and shimmering hats, and eventually, we wind our way to a melancholic conclusion…
